      Senior Research Engineer Interview

      15 Jun 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Gridware(CA) (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2026

      Interview

The recruiting process felt somewhat inconsistent. Initially, I was told that my background was a strong match for the role and was invited to interview with the hiring manager. Shortly afterward, the interview was canceled without explanation. Four days later, I received a new interview invitation and proceeded with the interview. At the beginning of the conversation, the hiring manager emphasized that they were seeking someone with significant experimental experience in addition to theoretical mechanics expertise. This was surprising, as my CV clearly reflects a computational mechanics and simulation background and does not highlight experimental work. It would have been helpful if the required experimental experience had been clarified earlier in the process to avoid unnecessary time for both sides. The interview was scheduled for 45 minutes but concluded after approximately 30 minutes. While interviews can end early for many reasons, the overall process left me with the impression that the role requirements may not have been fully aligned with my background from the outset. Overall, everyone was professional and courteous, but the role requirements and candidate expectations could have been communicated more clearly earlier in the process.
