Completed an application form, and was contacted by the global point of contact for internships. I had a Skype interview and was then put in touch with past interns upon receiving an offer.

You apply with your resume and cover letter and they are going to evaluate them. Later if you are eligible enough you are good to go. Interview is generally not required if you have proven expertise or experience in your resume and are willing to learn.
