I applied through other source. I interviewed at GovWell in Feb 2025
Interview
First round was an interview with the CTO and Co Founder. He was very nice and personable. Second round was with one of their engineers. It was basic React coding patterns. I got nervous and the interviewer was pretty cold and not very interested in providing hints.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at GovWell (New York, NY) in Aug 2025
Interview
- Phone screen with CTO (30 min)
- Onsite work history interview with CTO (1h 30min)
Transparent interview process. No Leetcode BS. You'll focus on what you've built and how you think technically.
Really appreciated the 'human touch' to their interview process. They clearly care about candidates and want to ensure there's a good fit around their mission of improving the way local governments run.

Question 1
Tell us about yourself as a person (whatever you're comfortable sharing)
I applied through other source. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at GovWell in Apr 2025
Interview
I was cold called by the CTO for a Software Development position. We had a 30 minute Zoom interview which was pretty standard. He had sent me a document describing their company's product and mission, which I reviewed prior.
During the interview, he asked me pretty standard questions such as:
- Tell me about yourself
- What about your current position is causing you to seek a change
- What's the most interesting technical challenge you've worked on recently
I asked him a few questions about GovWell and their product, company culture, etc. He said that he'd get back to me within the next few days about next steps. The next day I received an email informing me that they had decided not to proceed with me as a candidate, and that due to "bandwith constraints", they were unable to provide individualized feedback at this time.
Overall, it was a pretty lame, pointless experience. I wish them all the best and encourage companies to provide feedback to candidates.

Tell me about a recent technical challenge you overcame.
There were 3 rounds of behavioral interviews, each on separate days.
2 rounds of technical interviews, also on separate days, both on CodeSignal.
It ends with one final onsite visit to meet with everyone on the team.
