      Sales Engineer Interview

      16 Jan 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Gong

      Interview

The interview is labeled technical, yet focuses entirely on sales workflow processes. It lacks real-world context and fails to reflect a realistic, end-to-end sales opportunity relevant to actual customer scenarios.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Open ended questions with zero context. Ex. "What objects in a CRM are important to a customer?"

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Gong (Austin, TX) in Jul 2022

      Interview

Straight forward screening process. Typical questions you would expect of an SE. Growing fast and appeared to be asking all the right things in the process. Having some experience in their sector is helpful.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Do you consider yourself more technical or more business oriented as a SE.

      Sales Engineer Interview

      10 Sept 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Gong

      Interview

Interviewer came on and immediately struck me as a glorified account executive, guy didn't look like he had a technical bone in his body. His eyes were glazing over like his manager had a gun to his head off camera. Proceeded to ask me "why gong" when I work in a very specialized, well taken care of, high net worth sector they're trying to recruit for. That's not how this works at this level. He should've been trying to sell me on Gong, instead he wanted me to sell him on me, that's just not how this works at this level. He basically couldn't ask me any questions about the industry they're targeting, I knew leagues more than him. Meanwhile, I met a former Gong'er at the park (holding his new born baby) that quit with nothing lined up because he said the culture was abysmal. Yikes.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Barely asked anything, they were hiring for a very specific vertical and it was clear within 5 minutes I knew 100x more about the use case, compliance requirements, and procurement process for the industry than the interviewer. If this is their standard process for recruiting, they will be hiring from the bottom of the barrel.
