      Solutions Architect Interview

      17 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 months. I interviewed at GitLab

      Interview

Applied and didn't hear back for 7 months. Got an automated email out of the blue asking me to book in a timeslot to have a first interview. Booked in and didn't hear anything until the time. Jumped on the call and the person was very friendly. But I let them know that this was the first I had heard from them after applying 7 months ago and they acted surprised and asked if I had interviewed and been turned down etc. But no, just no contact (Seems the norm reading other reviews). Felt like the person I was talking to had been given my details 10 minutes before. Interview was more just a chat and get to know you session. But they did ask about tech stacks that are very uncommon here (Ruby for example). Given the role was a pre-sales role (Not working on the core product) it was a little strange. It was clear that no one had read my CV as they would ask about my experience level with particular tech that I didn't claim to have any knowledge in. A few days later I got an automated email from a no-reply address with a thanks but no thanks.

      Application

      Interview

Hyper specific questions on random technologies like flask. Most questions didn't relate to my resume or the listed responsibilities for the role. Rushed and impersonal. Very awkward flow and cadence of interview.

      Application

      Interview

Oh boy, these people are professional time-wasters. I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter to schedule an intro call. It was supposed to be 30 minutes but stretched to an hour because the recruiter had no idea what she was doing. Every time she asked, "Can you tell me about your time at X?" I’d answer, only for her to follow up with multiple additional questions. It felt more like an interview, but I had the time to entertain it. Now for the fun part. She set me up with a call with the hiring manager, who turned out to be one of the most arrogant folks I’ve ever encountered—smirking, laughing at my responses, and asking ridiculous questions like, "What does teamwork mean to you?" I was in disbelief. It felt like he was just blocking off time on his calendar to appear busy. Then, in a move straight out of a bad joke, he said, "Just to be transparent, we have candidates in the final stages, and I plan to move forward with one of them. I just want you to be aware so we don’t waste each other’s time." Yes, he actually said that. Professional? Not in the slightest. And yet, they had no problem wasting MY time. To top it off, I received a generic rejection email, so I let the recruiter have it. People's time is valuable, and these clowns don’t seem to realize that. I hope you guys think twice before wasting your time interviewing here. The company might be great but the recruiting practices are a clown show.
