      Backend Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub in Jan 2016

      Interview

I was connected to GitHub through a third-party recruiting firm. The ball started rolling pretty quickly after I was connected to the GitHub recruiter and another person (whom I think maybe could be a recruiting coordinator, but didn't introduce herself) emailed me a list of tech questions they wanted me to answer, no rush. It took me about 2 weeks to get back to them with my responses and I gave them a heads up that it would take me a couple of weeks to actually have the headspace to respond given my crazy work schedule at the time. Basically from then on, it was basically communicating with a black hole. It took them 3 weeks to decide they weren't going to pursue the process further with me, but didn't actually have the courtesy to speak to (or email) me personally but relied on the third-party recruiting firm to do that. I had high hopes about humans being valued at GitHub after all the blogs and reviews I've read about them given all the controversy they've gone through, but I was very disappointed at how my experience turned out in real life. It has left a real bad taste in my mouth.
