      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Girl Be Heard

      Interview

I submitted a cover letter and resume in response to the job posting, and after a few days received a request for additional information over email. The requested included 6 long-answer questions, and some of the information I was asked for was well covered in my resume and cover letter. Shortly after replying with my answers, I was invited in for an in-person interview. The interview was about an hour long, and was with a higher-level staff member and a mid-level staff member. Their questions were thoughtful and it was overall a good conversation. I saw a red flag when they revealed that this position had been vacant for about a year and they did not describe a specific hiring timeline. After the interview I sent a thoughtful thank you/follow-up email, and received no response. In fact, I never heard from them again. I absolutely understand that I may not have been what they were looking for, but I think it's incredibly rude and unprofessional not to provide some closure (even just a brief "sorry, we're moving in another direction" email) for someone who has gone through a multi-step process, including taking time off from work to interview in person. As a side note, it has been 2 months since I applied and the job is still posted. At best, their hiring process seems slow and disorganized. At worst, these are indicators of a poorly run organization.

We greatly appreciate the time you took to to interview with us. While we have intentionally hired slowly for this role to ensure a great fit, and have only just extended an offer for this position in the last few days, we understand it can be frustrating not to hear back. We will be reaching out to those who interviewed for this role shortly to see if we can assist in their job search beyond our organization, and hope to connect with you as well. We will work on improving communication with interviewees and invite all applicants to contact us for updates.
