      Senior Manager, Sales Analytics Interview

      4 Aug 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Foster City, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gilead Sciences (Foster City, CA) in May 2015

      Interview

Had an initial screening interview with recruiter. 1:1 telephone interview with hiring manager was then scheduled for a week later. This was subsequently rescheduled for another week later with a peer of the hiring manager. No reason given for the reschedule. While I'm pretty sure I had informed the recruiter I'd be on vacation outside of the US, I did not want to delay things, so went ahead with the new timing, only giving instructions to use a different cell # that had international access. In retrospect, that was probably a mistake, as the voice quality was very poor and I couldn't hear everything the interviewer said clearly. I give Gilead very low marks due to lack of professionalism in follow up. I was very well-qualified for this role and realistically expected to move at least a bit further along in the interview process. I did have some nervousness after having to conduct the phone interview while on vacation and with (what turned out to be) a bad connection. While I suspect that may well have played into the assessment of me, I'll likely never know. I never heard a peep back and it's been over two months. I sent a polite email to the recruiter two weeks post-interview reiterating my interest and inquiring about the status of the process. I received zilch back. How hard is it to send a simple, "Thanks, but no thanks" to a candidate? Best case, I might have been able to address concerns that arose from the 1:1 interview. I understand that Gilead is facing challenges with retention and hiring. They already have a reputation in the industry as a sweatshop. Treating candidates poorly is certainly not going to help that. I'm now feeling pretty OK with the way things turned out.
