      Scrum Master Interview

      26 Mar 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Uxbridge
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Giffgaff (Uxbridge) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I met the team at Silicon Milkroundabout careers fair and was called in for a f2f interview. The interview was relatively informal and over lunch so we walked down to a local cafe. Totally different to any interviews I've done before but actually made me get a good feel for the type of culture they have and started to build a relationship with the interviewers rather than just being fired question at. Was invited back to a 2nd round which required performing a retrospective to one of the teams, observed by the hiring manager and CTO. I always ask for immediate feedback, which was received. Formal feedback was given in the next couple of days along with a verbal offer.

      Scrum Master Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Giffgaff

      Interview

An assessment day was held for the role of Junior Scrum Master. There were about 20 people there on the day who had applied for the role. I wasn't expecting so many people to be there but I'm glad there was as it was a great opportunity to meet plenty of people. However I think more of an expectation could have been set about this. The first half of the day consisted of an introduction to the team, Giffgaff and the day we were going to have, followed by a few group activities. The first group activity focused on coaching skills and being able to have difficult conversations. The second was a Kanban board simulation game using dice and afterwards we discussed lessons learned. There was a BBQ lunch where everyone was very sociable, this was a great opportunity to speak to the people you would be working with as well as networking with the other applicants. Following lunch came the interviews, the interviews were done in a speed dating style. We had 3 minutes with each member of the team, one question from each person, making 7 questions in total. As someone who usually gets very nervous before or during interviews I really enjoyed this format. There was no time to overthink things or get nervous as you dotted from each interviewer to the next. I found the day really enjoyable and speaking with other applicants afterwards we agreed that we had got value from the day even if we were not offered a position.
