Inside Sales - Bait and Switch!! Interview

      17 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Rosslyn, VA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gartner (Rosslyn, VA) in Oct 2017

      Interview

The short of it is, I was lied to about what the base and OTE are. Don't waste your time. The long is: I went through 5 separate calls with 3 people. The first woman reached out to me LinkedIn, and qualified me as a lead - she was very sweet and friendly and got me set up with the recruiter. The recruiter was so nice and was a very good coach and really wanted me to get the job. I felt like she really cared about me! She said the OTE (Or 'TI') was between 100k-120k, and whichever TI was assigned to me, the base would be 60% , so I'm expecting this position to be either 60-72k. That is right in the realm of where I'm looking for a career . I go through the final two calls with the last recruiter, who was also so nice and awesome !! At this point I am overwhelmed by how excited I am to even be considered for the position . So after they decide to move me to the final in-person interview, I had a prep call with the second woman I spoke to. After pumping me up for my last interview (which was the day after this) she tells me the offer (if given) would now be 85k TI and 51k base......... Can you even IMAGINE THE DISAPPOINTMENT?!!? She tells me to not think of it as "base" because I'll be making 85k if I do well, but where is this 100-120k?! How come you're a coming up shy? She said that she only found out a few days prior that it was much lower, which after thinking about this for several days, is impossible. Here's why: They have 25 positions to fill, and they said they have 3 left, meaning they have 22 people that they have given offers to and will be in the next training class. There is zero chance this woman didn't know about this initially, given the circumstances. I decided to not take the final interview, so to be clear, I was not given an offer. I do not want an offer from a company that can waste so much of my time and their time by lying about money. The part that stuck out the most was when I confronted her about the money problem and how this was a big issue for me, she proceeded to try and build value behind working for Gartner, instead of addressing formally that I was super into wasting my time.
