The interview was like any other - lots of walking through my resume and explaining various projects I've worked on in the past. I met with a few other Directors that were in the building that day, and they were all very nice. I was a bit taken aback when I was asked if my "situation was under control", in reference to my childcare. I'm a female, and apparently need reaffirm that I actually intend to work as hard as anyone else would.
A few days after the interview I was told that they wouldn't be able to meet my salary request and was asked if I would accept less. I felt like I was negotiating with myself and I hadn't even received a formal offer. I asked for more info on the total benefits package before lowering my salary requirement. I was told that "the directors are still working on some possible scenarios to present for this position". After several days, I was told I was not selected for the job. It was very unusual all the way around. It's a small company with minimal HR. They don't seem to understand the proper way to handle HR processes.
