I was told by a friend that transcription is a great work from home job where you set your own hours. I type extremely fast and figured I would give it a shot. The test they send you to get hired, however, is impossible to pass. You take a typing test that calculates your words per minute (wpm). I don't remember what the minimum is to pass, but if you don't pass this you cannot move forward with the process. If you pass, they send you a "transcription test" with an audio file, template, and instructions. The audio I received was 12 minutes of audio. About 50% of it was impossible to hear. Most of the people in the recording are extremely far away from the microphone and were constantly talking over each other. I took the test seriously even though it seemed pointless. It took me about 4 hours over 2 days to transcribe the audio to the best of my ability. I know I adhered to their template requirements in my submission and did not have any errors. However, my application was rejected 20 hours after submission for the following reasons: Misheard words, left out words, and formatting errors. I think they're not actually looking to hire people with no experience in transcription and make the test impossible on purpose. My advice would be to not apply to this company if you have no experience.
