I applied online. I interviewed at Floor & Decor (Manassas, VA) in Mar 2026
Interview
3 step process ending with remote panel interview. First was initial phone interview with store manager, second was store visit, in person interview with store manager Finally, a teams call with store manager and 2 other store managers in the area. *The panel interview was horribly facilitated; all 3 managers had zero enthusiasm and were very low energy and genuinely seemed to hate their job. None of them were friendly nor seemed like they wanted to be there. Felt very scripted/robotic as opposed to a conversation. Ultimately, I learned more about them and their style of leadership within this company, (at least with the 3 store managers I spoke with.) Hopefully that is not company culture as a whole. At the end of the day, I'd say I dodged a bullet. I hope others have a better experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I've overseen a broad spectrum of candidate interviews in previous roles. The questions asked here were not effective at measuring a candidate's potential and were very outdated. Even when I would qualify that I had not control in the subject they were asking about in my previous position, they would insist on asking anyway. (such as, 'tell me about a non-stock success story where you brought in something your store didn't normally carry'- that was after I said already said in my previous job, corporate had inventory basically locked down and as managers we had not control over inventory selection. A lot of the questions were focused on me recalling redundant details and specific figures. It felt more like filler than anything that really measured my actual skills or potential in the role. Often it felt combative or they were seeking a 'gotcha moment' Given my experience and value I provide, I was surprised at the lack of charisma or care when interviewing for a leadership position. *I was never probed on Judgment, People Skills, Adaptability or Trend Spotting just to name a few. *
Three managers interviewed me by windows teams for fifteen minutes. We told about job experience and how can be applied we the company. Every was talking about how the company is growing
I applied in-person. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Floor & Decor (Dallas, TX) in Aug 2011
Interview
It was fairly short and simple, I spoke with two managers during the interview for about 20 minutes and they offered me a job on the spot.I started the next day.
