      Account Manager Interview

      12 Jun 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at First Response Finance in May 2026

      Interview

I attended an assessment day for the Account Manager role. The day was well structured, and the company tells you in advance to bring just yourself lunch and stationery are provided. The format was built around five distinct activities. The first was a public speaking task, followed by a combined chart reading and drawing exercise that you complete simultaneously more demanding than it sounds, as it tests how you process visual information while producing your own output at the same time. After a short break with refreshments, candidates were sent out into the office to speak directly with current employees and find out what they consider unique about the business. Back in the room, each of us shared the three Unique Selling Points we had identified. Those points then went into a group discussion among the candidates, and we had to collectively agree on the three we thought were most important. This part stood out as it's a research task, a synthesis task, and a group consensus task rolled into one. The final exercise was a roleplay. Each candidate was assigned a dealer and had to call them in character, explaining why the dealer should stay with First Response and continue doing business. The focus was retention, not new prospecting. Tip for anyone applying: get comfortable switching pace quickly. The day moves from individual public speaking, to dual task cognitive work, to interpersonal information gathering, to group discussion, to a sales role play, all in one session.

      Interview

The first stage was to record videos of yourself answering basic questions. That was fine. But the second stage was awful. I said to my self it felt like an audition process and we all said this on the day we were there. Just 9 of us arrived and we had to do multiple tasks to get to know one another - some of which were quite silly and very uncomfortable. But the upsetting part was when we were given out first break, me and half of the group were called into a room and asked to leave. We could have been asked before the break or long after the break. But also where the other candidates couldn’t see us being unsuccessful. Not a great style I’d say.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the interview process. We appreciate you outlining your experience. The initial video stage is designed to give all candidates an equal opportunity to introduce themselves and respond to the same core questions in a consistent format. The second stage of the recruitment process is not intended to feel like an audition, so we’re sorry that this was your perception. This stage is designed to observe how candidates communicate, collaborate, problem solve, and adapt in different situations, all of which are key elements of the role. Some exercises may feel outside of a traditional interview format, but they are selected to assess skills when working independently as well as within a team environment. With regard to the group being asked to leave during the break, the intention is to communicate outcomes as promptly and efficiently as possible, rather than extending the day unnecessarily for candidates who have been unsuccessful in progressing onto the next stage. We appreciate you sharing your feedback on how this was experienced, and we will take this on board as part of our ongoing review of how we communicate outcomes during assessment days. Thank you again for the time and effort you invested throughout our process. We wish you every success in your future applications.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at First Response Finance (Leigh, North West England, England) in Oct 2025

      Interview

Assessment day was very belittling. Spent a day doing different tests, having to stand infront of a full room of people youve just met and do silly tasks to show your confidence, and then each task you completed you would either stay on for the rest of the day or be evicted off like you were in a TV show. This felt wrong, why not let everyone just complete the day and pull them aside afterwards or call them instead of removing them infront of the whole room letting everyone know they weren't successful. Never had anything like it. Found staff patronising and unwelcoming.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and I’m really sorry to hear that you had a negative experience on an assessment day for the Customer Service Representative role. We appreciate the tasks on these days can put you out of your comfort zone, but we absolutely do not want anyone to feel belittled at any point of our process, and we do want to be as welcoming as we can. It’s disappointing to hear that this wasn’t how it felt on the day. We ask candidates to complete tasks that align with our values and the skills required for the job role. We know that some of these tasks can be challenging and are designed to help us understand where someone might be a fit, whether that’s for the specific role or for the culture as a whole. When we identify that someone may not be the right fit, we invite them to finish the day early, rather than keeping them waiting unnecessarily. We do appreciate that this can be frustrating, but it allows us to keep our process within two stages and means we’re not taking up too much of candidates’ time. Glassdoor reviews are anonymous, so if you haven’t yet reached out for feedback – or would like some more clarity on the feedback we’ve sent you – please do get in touch and we can arrange that. You also mentioned that some of the team came across as patronising or unwelcoming, and that’s something we take very seriously. We’ll make sure this feedback is shared internally, as we always want to improve how we make people feel throughout the process. If you’re happy to share more about your experience, please do email us as we’d really value the chance to learn from it. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review and share your feedback with us. Kind Regards, First Response Finance
