I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at First Descents in Feb 2023
Interview
Applied for the role online through the portal and heard back from the hiring manager a few weeks later. We scheduled the initial interview for 30 minutes later that same week. Hiring manager got on 15 minutes late to the video call, after having emailed them to confirm our interview. They asked if I had an additional 15 minutes to supplement the lost time, but we honestly didn’t use it. The remaining 15 minutes were spent by the interviewer reading questions from a sheet “they were given by HR” (verbatim quote). There was no conversation to the meeting, and I could tell the hiring manager was doing something else on the side while I was answering questions (they took interview notes on a physical notepad—so it’s pretty obvious when you see eyeballs looking off to the side and typing). Upon answering a question, the interviewer would just nod and move on to the next question without responding which felt strange. The hiring manager provided nothing about themselves that isn’t readily available on LinkedIn and ended the call unclear of next steps. I ended up never hearing back from them! The three words I’d use to describe that interview would be, dry, awkward and unprofessional.
Recruiter shared experience with org and shared background of their impact and culture. Fun and easy connection throughout process. Recruiter worked with hiring manager and extended invite to second round candidates. No work example necessary.
