To all those who are dreaming about joining companies like Exxon, the first thing you must have is patience.
The process usually takes somewhere b/w 4-6 months time, sometimes even more. Initial stage is CV screening which usually takes b/w 4-8 weeks time. Next will be preliminary interview which should happen within 2-4 weeks after the CV is shortlisted. Once candidate clears the preliminary interview, main interview would be scheduled (this process happened in my case). If the candidate clears the 2nd stage of interview, they will receive some sort of confirmation (might be via portal status update or an e-mail from the company HR for expected CTC and documents like current pay slip, educational details etc.) and this again could happen anytime b/w 2-4 weeks. If the company is satisfied, the candidate will be asked to go for a medical checkup and background verification. Results for medical checkup would take a maximum of 2 weeks time and BGV 2-4 weeks based on the number of companies a candidate worked earlier, the response time taken by the former employer, and the geographical locations of the former employer and colleges studied ( For example for any candidate with single degree and one employment history in the same location has higher chances of getting the BGV cleared with in 5days, and in my case I had worked in 5 locations with 5 different companies hence it took almost 5 weeks for the BGV report). In the meantime, candidate would receive a conditional offer letter which the candidate should accept within one week time. On successful completion of interviews, medical and BGV the candidate would receive the final offer letter.
Every step is transparent, No oral communication throughout the process, every stage has a status update and the candidates are well informed of what is happening. I felt a little skeptical about the process, hence I am writing this so that any candidate need not feel the same what I felt. Jus relax and give an honest interview, keep checking the status on the job portal, keep checking your mails regularly. All the best.
