- First round interview was a video interview where I responded to questions and submitted them without speaking to anyone. I am not huge fan of this interview format, as it does not permit the candidate to ask questions of a recruiter to understand if interest is mutual after learning more about the role. The questions themselves were fairly basic, asking about my experience with specific capabilities and tasks needed to perform the role. The final question in this video interview was about compensation expectations, and the range described in the interview question was lower than it had been in the written job description I had applied to.
- The second round interview was a panel interview. There was little flexibility offered in timing for the interview, and moving straight to a panel interview after the video round without speaking to a recruiter left me uncomfortable, as I had basic questions about the role (in-office expectations, benefits package) that would not have been appropriate to address in a panel interview/with the hiring manager. Overall, I went into the second round with the feeling that there was not a lot of respect for my time and that my interest in the role was a given. The interview consisted of 6 questions to be answered with the STAR method, showing my behavioral alignment with their corporate values. I can honestly say this was one of the worst interview experiences I have ever had. The questions were easy, but did not in any way address my skills/experience and their relevancy to the role. It’s an interview format that maybe makes sense if you are interviewing someone without work experience? At the end of the interview, one of my interviewers noted they had not actually read my resume and asked if I had experience with something that was listed on my resume in multiple places. I was completely disinterested in the role at this point, but was told I would hear back in about a week and a half.
- After two weeks, I had received no update. I logged into the candidate portal and withdrew my application as I had zero interest based on my bizarre interview. Then several days later, I received an email noting I had not been selected, despite the fact that I had already withdrawn my application. Truly, I wish them luck with finding someone who finds this process mutually respectful.
