After applying for a medical communications manager role, Excerpta contacted me to suggest I go for a publications manager role. What I was told was going to be an initial screening call ended up being a telephone interview with the team directors. This quickly escalated into me being asked to fly in to Amsterdam the following week to attend an interview. Having reorganised my schedule and flown in to Amsterdam to meet the team, several of the directors did not attend the interview in person - choosing instead to work from home that day. Of those that did attend, they did not direct the interview in anyway, or have any questions prepared for me. Instead, much of the conversation had to be led by myself, which felt a little uncomfortable considering I had never actually applied for the role. Despite the rush to get me in to interview, it wasn't until another month that they made an offer. The offer they did make was $3,000 less than what I had specified as my minimum, which was conservative. Whilst it wasn't a particularly difficult interview process and the requirements for being made an offer were low - the directors came across as disorganised, incompetent and unprofessional.

A recruiter reached out to me through LinkedIn and offered an internal position as a Medical Communications Manager. In the beginning, the first call and feedback seemed very quick and smooth. After that, their email communication went downhill. Overall, it took 3 months until I had a proper interview with team members. The team is quite set in its ways, so if you are someone who prefers innovative ways of doing things, it's better to look elsewhere.
