Head of Global Customer Care Interview

      25 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Equinix in Jan 2016

      Interview

Applied for the position for which I am very well qualified. After about a month was pinged by a recruiter. We had a good conversation and he asked me to go through an interview through their video interviewing system and he'll be in touch later. To sign in to the video system you have to accept both Equinix and the video vendor terms, they are about 3-4000 words EACH, and written in very dense legalese. The video interview system presents a question, and they chose very general and nebulous ones, e.g., "how do you engage a global work force?", then you have 60 seconds to formulate your response and four minutes to present your response while watching the clock tick. After four such questions the interview was done, and over a month later I have not heard a thing from Equinix or their recruiter, and unlike other companies, I will never again apply to work there. The video interview process is dehumanizing, and it is idiotic to the extreme. The only thing it tests for is the candidate's ability to BS their way through nebulous questions and make up responses. I don't operate like that and do not wish to be part of a company that operates in this manner. I have conversations, I ask questions, I collaborate. I do NOT produce endless drivel in response to questions that are poorly defined. Further, I do not think producing such drivel is an enviable quality. In summary, applying for work with these guys is a negative experience in the extreme. They look for one kind of people and that's what their screening process is designed to address. If you are not it, don't bother.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy participating in a digital interview with Equinix. In our experience, and based on anonymous candidate feedback, this is typically a part of our hiring process that most candidates really enjoy for a number of reasons. For starters, candidates are invited to complete digital interviews when it’s convenient for them. Our interviews are on-demand and available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. They also eliminate the need for our candidates to figure out how to fit phone screens, travel time or interviews into a busy day. Most importantly, they allow our candidates to really shine, bringing their resumes to life by telling their story on video. Instead of being summarized by a static piece of paper, candidates are allowed to tell their full story and give us a better preview of their skills, personality, and experience. The questions asked in each digital interview are unique and specific to that position and aim to help us better understand a candidate’s skills and experience related to key aspects of the role. What’s more, interview questions are positioned appropriately and consistently across all candidates ensuring a fair experience for all. We believe in the power of digital interviews at Equinix as it allows recruiters to speak with more candidates faster, so that candidates hear sooner about jobs that are best for them. We do regret that you have not yet heard back from your recruiter, as this result is not typical, and we are currently investigating the situation to learn more about how we can improve. In the meantime, we offer our sincere apologies and look forward to closing the loop as we recognize that timely follow-up is a critical part of the candidate experience.
