      Graduate Rotational Analyst Interview

      23 Apr 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Equilend (New York, NY) in Apr 2025

      Interview

First round recruiter screen, second round was a two part behavioral interview evaluating fit, motivation, strengths, etc. Third round was "Business Insights" and was described by the recruiter as a deeper conversation around "Why Equilend/the work we do? Why Fintech?" etc... but that wasn't really the case. I jump into that call and right off the bat, without even asking for an intro or anything at all about myself, the interviewer throws a market sizing question at me. Ok, no problem, I've done those before. However, the entire rest of the interview consisted of being asked some of the most niche and specific technical questions I'd ever received. After going over a bunch of Excel scenarios, I was at one point asked to grade my SQL skills, to which I responded 1.5/5 – I'd taken a class in SQL before but it had been quite some time. The interviewer then proceeds to ask me hyper specific syntax questions on SQL for 20 minutes. The questions throughout the interview were all over the place and it didn't seem like anything had been prepared beforehand. At one point, I was even asked to draw out a process flow diagram for a logical problem (with the exact correct shapes, i.e. rectangle, circle, diamond, etc). At the end of the interview I was being grilled on my knowledge of capital markets, the trade lifecycle, the step-by-step process of short selling, and more. The interview was supposed to run 30 minutes and instead took a full hour (I cut off the interviewer at around the 40 minute mark to question this, but they kept going). Throughout the entire thing the interviewer seemed pretty rude and honestly like he was trying to make me fail. Honestly, the worst part is that I had prepared for an entirely different type of interview... if I had known it was going to be grueling, specific technical questions I would've never been caught so off guard. Overall, a very disappointing and frustrating end to the interview process that left a bitter taste in my mouth, which was especially unfortunate because everyone else I had spoke to throughout the process was awesome.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your last round of interviews didn’t align with the expectations set earlier in the process. We assure you that we would never set anyone up to fail, our analyst roles are highly competitive, and adding a layer of complexity to the interview process helps us identify the best fit for the role. That said, we appreciate your feedback around preparation and understand how valuable clear guidance can be. We’ll take this on board as we continue to refine our candidate experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Equilend in Apr 2024

      Interview

The process was well organized. Since this is a rotational program, you interview with people from the business divisions you indicated interest in on your application. so there was an interview with the head of recruiting, then 2 interviews with hiring managers, a quick chat with someone who has the role currently to ask any questions you want, and a final interview with another hiring manager. I heard back within 2 weeks after my last interview. Everyone I met was friendly, informative, and curious about my experiences.
