For the trainee role, the first round interviewers do check for communication skills as one of the selection criteria. Communication skill has a great weightage as we have a presence in multiple countries and it helps our employees coordinate better. However, technical skills will always remain the major criteria, a candidate with great technical skills is not just a potential employee but a great asset to us.
