I interviewed at Electronic Arts (Redwood City, CA) in Sept 2020
Interview
Corp recruiter in round 1, knew him through my network; hiring manager in round 1, we covered my career goals and why interested in role;
2nd round - Eng leader, peer TA Mgr, peer HR leader, hiring manager
final round was with head of TA
I applied online. I interviewed at Electronic Arts in Apr 2020
Interview
7 interviews (including a pre screen with a recruiter)
This was the most disorganized interview process. I had to meet with 6 people (45 mins each) and only one person (the final interviewer ) really knew what the role required and had a clear vision of the role.
None of the other people could answer questions about the dynamic of the direct team, reporting structure and overall strategic vision. It was such a disconnected process.
I didn’t get the job and I could tell the final interviewer was the one who declined me but it would have been great to have him meet earlier in the process because he was the only stakeholder who knew what he needed from this person.
From a candidate experience perspective I was losing interest every step of the way but compensation sounded really good so it was worth pursuing.
You would think with this many interviews someone would think to atleast add value at some point in the process or maybe throw a case study In there or something.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What is your management style
If you had someone on your team who was a low performer, and one who was mediocre and one who was stellar how would you manage each person ?
Why do you want to work at EA?
Contacted by Hiring Manager in Central HQ. EA was on my radar since I began my career, so I’d say a chat could benefit us. Today, I’d say a big “No way!”.
During the meeting in Bucharest I discovered the Hiring Manager is severely challenged in:
- being on time (10 mins late, no reason or apologies)
- booking a meeting room (left to lurk in the lobby for 5 more minutes in a company that makes you sign NDAs before entering their studio)
- basic scheduling (shared she has little over 20 mins left for me, projected time onscreen - who does that?)
- applying any criteria or semi-structured CBI (pushing 70% of our time together on "this is an all women team, so I'm concerned how you'll fit in” - why did I bother building a career?)
- addressing company/function/location challenges (unable to share facts & figures on people plan, comment culture challenges - other than “this is an all women team, so we need to be careful” - with what?)
