      Field Engineer Interview

I applied online. I interviewed at ENTACT

      Interview

I thought that the first woman in talent acquisition who reached out to me was very kind and humble. Then, two men joined the call, and I found the interview to be somewhat odd. I was interviewing as an entry-level candidate out of college and the first question they asked me was what activities I did in high school. I was caught off guard by this question. What if I was poor in high school? Why would my high school record matter at all having completed nearly 4 years in engineering + work experience in college? It seemed unprofessional. During the interview, they told me that, as an entry-level candidate, I "know nothing" because of my age and touted the per diem that I would be compensated with. They told me that some people were buying houses with the per diem on remote sites that they were working in and other things. However, they talent acquisition panel told me that I could expect about 70+ hours of work per week, and I might have to travel anywhere in the country. This was not a fit for me at all and seemed exploitative. This company totally gave me a construction boys' club + frat hazing vibe. I am sure that some of the experience is valuable, but I found the interview process to be somewhat unprofessional. In retrospect, it is kind of like they wanted me to devalue my education and skills, so that they could convince me that this grueling job was something I should settle for because I am young.
