      English Instructor Interview

      30 Jan 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Nagoya, Aichi
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at ECC Japan (Nagoya, Aichi) in Oct 2022

      Interview

It was very easy. They asked some very standard questions about experience and availability. Then I had to do a grammar test. That was the most difficult part. They contacted me a few days later and I started training for three days. It was tough but very rewarding.

      Interview

I interviewed in country with a few others. Had to do a one-on-one interview with the HR staff, and then some lesson demos. HR staff were supportive and encouraging, rather than critical.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at ECC Japan

      Interview

Was asked to attend a mandatory interview/info session in LA. Promptly bought tickets to fly out since it was far from my home. Interview session lasted from 11 AM to approximately 6 PM; the first few hours were an introduction to the company, the mission, and the position. There were a few group activities and icebreakers mixed in. For one you had to interview another attendee and give an introduction to said person in front of the group. The later hours of the session are spent taking a written grammar quiz (which is apparently not all-deciding as I don't believe i did well), preparing, and carrying out, the demo lesson, which was done in two small groups where we presented to either Edward or John. We then waited outside and were either called in for a second interview (good sign) or sent packing (bad sign). I was lucky enough to get the second interview. My advice is be outgoing, but not overbearing. Show that you are humble enough to learn and ask questions, but show that you have an air of confidence. It's not about doing it perfectly, but doing it in a fun way. If you screw up in the demo interview, try not to get flustered, and carry on. I was told that I would hear back within two business weeks. The day before the final day I got an unofficial offer, and then an official one the next day. Then comes a touch and go process of sending your info over, taking a health exam (do this early), and waiting for them to confirm your placement, which comes a month or so before your departure. Overall, if you are a social person who gets along with most people then you'll probably enjoy this interview, and get the position. If you are quiet, or lack confidence when speaking, it might be hard.
