      Software Engineer Interview

      14 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Doximity (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2022

      Interview

Recruiter was late and all of his questions were things that could have been answered by even a casual skimming of my résumé. After the third one of those I asked him if he'd even looked at it and he insisted that he had. About five more absolutely pointless questions later he doubled back and admitted that he hadn't, offering "I just go back from an offsite" as some kind of excuse for not preparing at all. I made a good faith effort to ask him some really basic cultural questions but he was fundamentally incapable of answering any of them and just drove off on some wild tangent about how Doximity's IPO went and how they're going to be acquiring a bunch of other companies soon over and over and over as this material was clearly the only thing he'd actually rehearsed. I was really glad when the 30 minutes was up so I could close the Google Meet tab and go do something productive with my time.

      Question 1

I see it says you've been using Rails for over 15 years. So have you ever used Rails before? Can you give me some examples of how you've used Rails? What about Rails? Are you familiar with that at all? Where am I? How did I get this job?

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Doximity

      Interview

I first had a recruiter phone call where we discussed my background, experience, and interest in the role. Two days later, I received a take-home coding assignment that tested both problem-solving and practical implementation skills. After submitting the assignment, I was informed within a few days that the company had already hired someone for the position. Although the outcome wasn’t positive, I appreciated that the recruiter took the time to personally call and update me about the decision.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

During the recruiter phone call, they asked about my experience, why I was interested in Doximity, details of a challenging project I’ve worked on, and my salary expectations.

      Interview

Typical tech interview process. (1) Conversation with technical recruiter with a few screening questions peppered in, (2) take home assignment to add functionality to an existing rails app, (3) panel interview. Take home should take about 3-5 hours, I personally split this up into a few sessions. I would focus on coding style here and write cleanly! One part of the panel interview discussed the assignment and others were heavily behavioral (describe a time that you ).

      Question 1

Describe a time that you used a design pattern. Which pattern was it, why did you use it?
