The Executive Director of Mariposa by Discovery Senior Living in Lake Worth text messaged me for an interview. I show up and am greeted by the ED and Assistant ED. They give each other a glance within the first few seconds of meeting me. The interview is cut short after 3 minutes of the three of us sitting together and me answering the basic “tell me about yourself.” The ED then claimed that they are looking for someone with “more experience,” yet she also said that she decided to reach out to me given my many years of experience working in the senior living industry. I thought of these statements to be contradictory. I am not sure if they hired someone and forgot to cancel my interview, or if it was a form of discrimination based on physical appearance or age, or something else. They also said they did not want to “waste any more of my time,” I had already taken the day off from work to meet with them.
