      Penetration Tester Interview

      5 Jun 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Digital Boundary Group

      Interview

Round 1 - HR Phone review: The phone review went very well. Kind and courteous. I talked about company culture and seemed interested in personal qualities. Written assessment: I understand having to test someone's written ability, but the essay format of something that is very personal to me seemed... Odd... I would have rather had a written technical assignment or something. Is this a test for written technical skill or a psychological eval... Round 2 - Technical: It got a bit weird here. I was scheduled for a remote technical interview. The associate showed up late to the timed technical interview. Was using very outdated tools (Metasploit 4). A lot of the time was spent trying to learn the old syntax. I was directed to only use google on the remote machine, which I guess could seem fair. While I was doing the technical, I found a list of user names in a text file. And was told, "That's not supposed to be there, but well, I'll give you a pass on this one." I passed that round, but small alarms were going off in my head. Round 3: Interview with the Team lead. This one seemed more by the books. The interview was fair and did catch me off guard on some questions. When asked about compensation and growth, I never really got a straight answer. I was quoted something about performance bonuses and paintball... I never got a chance to ask about turnover, as it got a bit awkward around the last question. Weeks pass, and I get the standard reply of not what we are looking for. No hard feelings there.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the time you’ve taken to share this information. At DBG, we are constantly adapting and improving our processes, and it is feedback like this that helps guide us in those endeavours to have a successful recruitment process. Recently, we’ve added a dedicated Talent Acquisition Specialist to our team, which allows us to have the resources to focus on the recruitment process. As a result, the process has changed since the version you’ve mentioned here. Most notably, we no longer administer a written assessment, but instead, we favour technical tests that include some grammar and attention to detail assessments as well. Again, thank you for your time and your interest in Digital Boundary Group, we wish you the best of luck in your career search.
