There was a 2-month process that began with a Zoom call between myself and a few organization reps, in a standard but pleasant experience. However, there seemed to be a planning hiccup with the month that ensued afterward. Several weeks later, I had a structured call which required a prepared presentation, first with the Executive Director, then staff and selected board members who joined in later. The whole of it seemed very belabored, like a corporate job was on the line. It was a pleasure to see the scope of ethnic diversity on their staff, though it skewed to younger staffers. They were all very welcoming. To be at this stage should signify that an offer is close to being made. Overall, having to answer almost 20 people on a call is overwhelming, like going from a desert of little interest to fielding questions from the press. My interviews and presentation went well. Ultimately none of that mattered, because no offer came my way. I didn't get an answer as to why either, though a rejection was made. There were lots of hoops to jump through and weeks of inaction just to reach that conclusion, especially to craft a thoughtful assignment as if I've already been hired. Their human resources rep was always very communicative and clear, though. That's rare!
