Was emailed about scheduling a 30 minute phone interview with someone in HR. Had a great phone call with a guy in HR who was really friendly and explained the process. Two weeks later, I received a phone call to setup an interview. He told me who I would be meeting with and told me that they would like me to come to the interview prepared with some thoughts or ideas on a marketing campaign they could run to get more customers. A few days before the interview, I received an email saying they would be cancelling my interview because they already found someone whose skill set better matched what the company was looking for.
While the HR department can't be blamed for this, the hiring manager for this position is not impressive. If my skill set did not match the requirements for the marketing position, why even waste my time to schedule an interview? That would have been wasting my time as well as yours.
