      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Coursera in Jan 2025

      Interview

After a very lengthy and intensive interview process (with multiple rescheduled and incorrectly scheduled interviews, plus two case interviews and a take home assignment,) the final interview involved three upper level team members, for a low level role. In short - the interview was one of the the rudest interactions I have ever had in a professional setting. The interview was an interrogation (in their own words,) where a member of the leadership team repeatedly interrupted, dismissed, and mocked anything I said, and was generally aggressive, rude, and arrogant. Given the three employees were male and I’m a woman, the whole thing had what felt to me like a sexist undercurrent. Generally, the interviewers seemed more interested in using the interview as an opportunity to feel powerful than in actually hearing anything I had to say, despite having already moved me through multiple rounds. The leadership team member ended the call by telling me they take these interviews so “seriously” because anyone would be lucky to work on the team because theirs is the “most important at the company” and they get the “coolest projects”. I’m not sure if this was his attempt at explaining why he was acting so rudely, but it did not help. I don’t know if this reflects the culture of the company as a whole, but it really soured my view of the team, and I left the interview appalled that I had just been spoken to that way in a work setting, much less an interview. I don’t know that I could recommend this interview process to anyone.
