I interviewed at Costco Wholesale (Covington, LA) in Jun 2024
Interview
I was never given an address or instructions as to where interviewing was. I was confused as I arrived at the location of the new warehouse. It was a literal construction site. Orange clay, gigantic concrete tanks, tractors and bigger trucks on scene building what is to become the new local Costco. I was directed to a trailer on the complete opposite side of the chaos so I drove to the small portable structure to find out that Costco was interviewing off site around 5 miles away. By this point I have wasted 20 minutes and will now arrive late to the new address I was just given. I drive off this construction site with my vehicle covered in the orange clay frustrated that I was not given any instruction and now arriving llate to this interview.
When I finally arrive, I am greeted by a gentleman and shown to an interview area that has a table and 3 chairs. I sit in one and two other men sit in the others. They ask me the traditional questions of “tell me a time when you helped “ and “why do you want to work for …” My favorite, “ tell ne about whenil you turned an angry customer,;' I answered all questions to the best of my ability and I left the interview hopeful and excited to hear back from them. The following morning I get the rejection email. Letting me know that I wasn’t selected to go forward and I was welcome to reapply. So I reapplied. I was soon called and told not to reapply again. “That isn’t how things work” she said. I was devastated and truly confused. I really thought everything went well. I don’t exactly know why I was not asked to return.
They called me again, each time I was asked if I received the email. I was called 3 times after receiving the email. The final time I asked why I did not qualify. Why I was not selected. What could I do to change the outcome next time. After waiting for 10 minutes on hold, one of the men who interviewed me picked up the line and said that they were looking for certain criteria with the questions that they asked. I wasn’t expecting that.
You see, during the interview, the two interviewers gave me the impression that I was a great fit and that I had given great answers. The only time I felt anything off was when one of the men showed the other my resume and pointed to something on one of the pages. I am not sure what. I pushed that thought from my mind and I felt as confident as anyone could feel about beginning a new career with a company that they believe in.
Asking if I received the rejection email again was like rubbing salt on a wound. That stung a little bit because I now have gotten 5 calls to make sure I received my rejection email.
The interviewer said I could reapply after they open the warehouse in 2 months.
