Initial screening via web and recruiter call. Was asked to take a 1.5 hour SQL test and perform a data dump analysis (read: no business question or problem stated) within 3 hours. Submitted and was advised not being moved forward due to a typo on the deck and “did not tell a strong narrative, or dive into the data deep enough beyond a couple of bullets in the summary”. Beware, this process is akin to a game of “bring me a rock”, where if you happen upon the answer they’re looking for, you win. And someone already has the answer in mind.
I will say this: after a 4 + hour investment, I suppose it is better to know that they have unreasonable expectations. I can only imagine the hellish delights and non-existent work-life balance on this team if they are this unreasonable before they even have you in the door. I’ve seen the same positions posted over and over for this team, so either they have a retention problem, or they can’t find the perfection they seek. I know understand why.....
