      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at City Teaching Alliance (New York, NY) in Oct 2018

      Interview

The interview process was nerve racking and unique to any other typical interviews I've been too. They do tell you before you start that you are not competing with the people in the room with you but your more so seeing if urban teachers is a for you. It's not a competitive interview, it's a selective interview, so if you give it all you have and show a willingness for growth you will most likely get in. They say that without saying it, but still give it your best because you never know what exactly they are looking for and comparing you to.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at City Teaching Alliance (Baltimore, MD) in Nov 2020

      Interview

Depending on how much experience you have working with children you might be able to bypass the first short interview where they ask you some generic interview questions. After that, they have a group/individual interview which takes a couple of hours. I did mine all virtually because of the pandemic. They give you an article to read/discuss for the group portion and also have you present a short mini lesson (5 minutes) in front of your group. Finally during the individual interview they ask you more about your experience working with children specifically/related experiences and have you do a couple of role play exercises.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. How would you do a transition between activities in a classroom 2. How would you bring up an issue with your teaching mentor

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at City Teaching Alliance (Washington, DC) in Jan 2018

      Interview

The final interview is a 6-hour interview where you will teach a mini lesson to a small group of interviewees (who are just as nervous as you are), have a 20-minute discussion with that same group about questions regarding the articles you were asked to read beforehand, then move into a one-on-one interview with two staff members where they will ask questions they send to you beforehand so you will be prepared and then you will have to engage in a role play scenario as a teacher and the interviewees will be angry parents.

      Question 1

Name a time when you overcame adversity.
