Recently, I've been doing job interviews with this same title and this was the first one that blew me away.
I submitted a resume and the next day I got a call in for an interview. The initial interview was more of a "get to know you" phase. It was easy talking to the girl and I first felt good vibes from what she told me about the company, I should have known it was too good to be true.
After I left, I got a call offer for a second interview, which they told me there would be a shadow day, which I thought was odd but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. When I arrived the next day, there were a ton of young people and loud music in another room. There were also a lot of people who I assumed were interviewing for the same position, this ended up being a group shadow day. The day was scheduled from 12pm-8pm. We were assigned with one of the "Corporate Trainers" who let us know that we were going to meet up with her "client" in her designated "area". I thought all of this sounded weird, but went along with it. We all took the brown-line to her area where I thought we were meeting a client in an office, nope. She gave us all a sheet and told us to start writing down the address and she started knocking door to door.
The thing that got me the most was the fact that the one time someone answered, she basically harassed the guy into changing his gas bill to another company. The guy was clearly frustrated and she wasn't listening to anything the guy was saying. For example: He asked "Just give it to me straight, are you trying to sell me something? I don't have time for this." She responded "No, we just want to see your gas bill, there was a notice we sent you." She then proceeded to take about an hour of his time when he could have clearly shut the door and told us we were trespassing his property. (Did I mention, she told us it was okay to just walk into people's backyards??)
This was just so scummy and not what I intended for a job in sales, I could have sold miles around this "Corporate Trainer". Around lunch, a few of us told her thanks for the shadow, but we weren't finishing the rest of the interview. The tip of the iceberg was this job is 100% commission, if you're into pyramid type scheme jobs, by all means, apply for this position.
