      My response to the recruiter and hiring manager summarize my experience: "Thanks for following up with the Talent Acquisition team regarding this request. I appreciate the confirmation that the video-recorded interaction obtained without my consent will be deleted in its entirety.  As for BrightHire, my concerns had more to do with consent than discomfort. Beyond a few vague case studies and analyses that seem methodologically flawed from what little information I could gather, I don’t see compelling evidence at this time that BrightHire achieves the ambitious DEI goals it claims. Because of this, I worry that video recordings do not benefit me and opens the door for additional bias (e.g., see research on AI and bias).  I also have numerous concerns about the case study stage. Primarily, I decline to engage in free labor to demonstrate my skills and knowledge (I hoped that the ample writing samples I shared would suffice). To be clear, I am 100% confident that I would adequately “pass” any case studies I am presented with. If feedback is valued, I'd like to share that this request comes across as both exploitative and offensive. Additionally, I have concerns that the initial 15-minute screening/interview did not allow an opportunity for me to ask questions, as this should be a two-way street (believe it or not, I do have questions about the company and the role). If leadership has the time to watch a recording of me completing a case study, they can also make the time to meet with me. It's simply a matter of respect, transparency, and willingness. I should also have an opportunity to meet with them and ask them questions. Lastly, communication since the screening/interview has been unusually slow and at times "off." Quite frankly, I do not get the impression that I am being respected as a job candidate. Assuming there is no flexibility around the recording policy and the case study exercise, I would like to request to have my candidacy for this role rescinded. Please feel free to move forward with the next candidate. Thank you for your time and be well."
