I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Cengage (Boston, MA) in Jan 2016
Interview
Internal recruiter that works for Cengage reached out to me on LinkedIn and we had a phone call about the position. After he spoke with the hiring manager, he emailed me back in a couple days to arrange the interview. The interview was with the recruiter, the finance director, and a senior financial analyst. Overall a good interview experience. Very professional.

Interview
After applying, I was approached by a recruiter to set up an interview. We scheduled for the next day. I interviewed directly with the hiring manager, I didn’t have a phone screen with the recruiter. The hiring manager let me know that they weren’t in a rush to fill the position. I was curious as to why the position was open because the same role was filled last year. Last year, when I followed up on my application, they let me know it was just filled. Perhaps they were growing and hiring a second analyst. When interviewing she shared there were 8 people on the team, but none were analysts. I wondered more about what happened to the analyst they hired this time last year and was that an indication for a high turnover. Overall, the interview was average but the only thing that slightly stood out was how much the hiring manager talked and how little room there was for me to speak. The hiring manager did listen well when I spoke. She did a good job of summarizing what I said. Another thing that stood out was the salary. For the position and the amount of experience they wanted, I believe 65-80k is on the lower side. I made 80k as an analyst at my last position. I would have liked to go higher, but because I read their max, I said my preferred salary was 80 again. The hiring manager seemed surprised with my ask and commented about the cost of living in my area
