      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      22 Feb 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Amsterdam
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Catawiki (Amsterdam) in Jan 2026

      Interview

I found the interview process at Catawiki very pleasent. All the steps were carefully designed and expectations were on a practical level (on par with an engineers day to day work, which is a respectable method of technical screening as opposed to the pure "leetcode style" interviews; even AI agents are allowed / encouraged to be used for interviews, which IMHO is a very modern approach in interviews -- we want more of this responsible AI usage in the industry). All people (engineers, managers, vp and recruiters) I met along the way, were very collaborative, compassionate and professional while listening with an open mind. - Intake call with recruiter - Initial technical live coding round / technical screening with 1 engineer - System design with 2 engineers - Live coding with 2 engineers on a more complex problem - Culture fit/add interview with an engineering manager - Final alignment chat with VP of engineering Although I did end up declining the offer, it was a difficult decision for me as I think highly of Catawiki and I'm sure they'll keep thriving with such great culture.

      Interview

Got a call scheduled by a recruiter where she asked typical culture round style problems and a few days later got a rejection with no reasons of rejection. I had followed up too but got no reply.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Catawiki (Amsterdam)

      Interview

It was a six round process. Started with a recruiter call followed by a pair programming technical screening. After that there were three more rounds: second pair programming, system design (system you worked on), and culture fit. Finally because this role would be a relocation for me there was a final call with a tech VP in which they and I could confirm this will be a good fit and neither side will regret in a few months time re: time, money, and energy investment. Note, all rounds were conducted online via Google Meet and Coderpad, when applicable.

      Question 1

Paraphasing, what was one time you strongly disagreed with someone above you (lead, rank) and how did you resolve that conflict?
