      Senior Manager Technology Interview

      20 Nov 2019

      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Capital One in Sept 2019

      Interview

Bait and Switch. I interviewed for Senior Manager Technology which is equivalent to a Tech Lead position in non banking firms. I had one 45 minute phone screen followed by a technical assessment which could be completed in 72 hours. Why would you send a basic technical assessment to someone with 15+ years experience? I cleared both and was invited to an onsite interview. The onsite interview consisted of 2 technical, 2 behavioral and one case interview. I performed well in all the 5 interviews. The recruiter called me after 2 days and offered me "Manager of Technology" position. This is a typical bait and switch. Interview for one position but offer another. I declined. No professional company should interview someone for a role and offer them a lower role. Either hire the person or don't. If they felt I wasn't good enough they wouldn't have offered me a job in the first place.
