I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Canal Park Lodge (Duluth, MN) in Oct 2017
Interview
I was interviewed by the GM of the property who is quite possibly one of the best upper management employees I've ever worked for. I know some people are interviewed by either of the other two managers at the front desk (who are equally amazing).
They are looking for people that are clean-cut, smile, and seem like they care to show up every day and work. If you aren't that kind of person, don't apply. They will see right through you. (This isn't a job you can call in sick too very often, and don't even THINK about no call no show. They don't roll with that kind of behavior)
Dress formally, you wear a uniform at the desk, but they are looking for someone who is clean and keeps up their appearance. You will be the face of the hotel, the first impression for guests, that's important in the hospitality industry.
Lastly, relax... They are awesome managers, you will love them. But they are watching to make sure you're going to connect with not just guests, but other employees. Employees that don't get along with other employees don't last long here. They expect an employee they can count on, give them a reason to believe they can expect that from you.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Prepare for typical behavioral questions... (ex: Explain a time you were put in a difficult situation with a coworker... how did you handle it?)
