I applied through other source. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Caltrans (Sacramento, CA) in Jun 2016
Interview
This always start out as a fairly standard State interview process; apply, notification of interview, interview, and follow-up notification letter. Seems like each position is molded to a specific position and qualifications so each candidate attempts to show they are right for the job. Do not just show up anticipating all interviews for this position are the same cause they are not. There will be five to ten questions. Some may seem repetitive but it is not. Each question is well thought out, vetted, and was designed so each answer could be "rated" or scored (e.g. 0-5). Each interview is different as are the questions and the "ideal" responses.
The situational questions presented during my interview were particularly valuable. These questions required me to think on my feet and come up with solutions to hypothetical scenarios that I might encounter as a Transportation Planner at Caltrans. For instance, I was asked how I would handle a sudden traffic congestion issue or what steps I would take to improve transportation efficiency in a particular area.

I applied online. I interviewed at Caltrans in Apr 2023
Interview
There were 6 questions and they were asked in 20 minutes. Time for questions afterwards. They were friendly, pretty run of the mill process. Wish I would have utilized the first question more, which was the most open ended.
