I interviewed at Butternut Box (Edinburgh, Scotland)
Interview
I had two remote interviews with Butternut Box. The first was a light introductory chat, the second more structured with direct questions about challenges in the role. Both interviewers were professional and communication was clear, with a follow-up email offering feedback, which I appreciated.
The main issue is that the role was advertised as a Brand Ambassador position, but it is in fact a commission-only sales job. There is no base salary, no paid training, and no way to predict earnings in a new region beyond comparisons with other areas. In my opinion, a genuine brand ambassador role should come with a salary.
I also felt that some of my concerns, such as selling in low-income areas or acknowledging that raw dog food is a competing premium option, were not well received.
Ultimately, I didn’t get the job, and I think my reservations came across. If you have solid sales experience and can afford the financial risk, it might suit you. But if you’re expecting a typical brand ambassador role, go in knowing that it’s 100% commission-based sales.
I applied online. I interviewed at Butternut Box (Dublin, Dublin) in Nov 2025
Interview
Too many stages for a part time job, with no set pay (commision only). really nice people, handled it a little bit unproffesionally. The pay structure is never clearly outlined, all you receive is estimates/ averages
Thank you for sharing this feedback.
We’re glad you found the team friendly, but we’re sorry the process felt too lengthy and that the pay structure wasn’t clearly explained.
We will make sure to flag this with the team who will review this to ensure expectations around stages and commission are communicated much more transparently in future.
Thank you again for your feedback. We really appreciate it.
Video interview, just a general chat to ask about your motivations/ experience. Then assessment day. This involved a group pitch, and an interview (yes/ no) on that pitch - trying to see your ability to sell. Another informal chat.
