      Software Engineer Interview

      28 Jun 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Built Robotics (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2022

      Interview

I met some of their team at ICRA conference and applied for job. They contacted me and asked me to finish take home exam. I finished take home exam with their expected output and gave them faster algorithms. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to finish debugging faster algorithms but they were down to finish point and I gave them total of 3 algorithms. One of them 100% working and other two were 80-90% done. I didn't want to put too much time on it so I submitted it. I don't know what they are looking for but I must say I gave them better algorithm than what I solved for and as for the interview is concerned initial rounds are just to see if the candidate knows his stuff.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Built Robotics in Oct 2024

      Interview

I applied online and about a month and a half later, I was scheduled for an interview with a recruiter. The interview was pretty standard, covering topics like the company, my background, and why I wanted to join. The next step was a take-home coding challenge involving a word game. The task itself wasn’t overly complex, but I put in significant effort to make it as polished as possible. I focused on writing efficient code, adding detailed comments, creating a thorough README, and even included tests (which weren’t required) to show my commitment. After submitting the challenge, I waited about 2-3 weeks only to receive a standard rejection email stating I wasn’t selected for the next phase. No specific feedback was provided, despite my request for it. This was especially disappointing since I had put in several hours of work for the coding challenge and genuinely wanted the role. I believe it would’ve been reasonable to receive at least a brief explanation or some feedback to help improve for the future. The lack of transparency makes me question whether the company is seriously recruiting or just testing the waters.
