      Coordinator Interview

      14 Jan 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at BrightRoll (San Francisco, CA) in Dec 2013

      Interview

This was actually the second time BrightRoll contacted me for a position. The first time, I didn't make it through the incredibly impersonal phone interview. The second phone interview was much better, although it petered out towards the end. I received an email about 30 minutes after the phone call, asking for my availability and if I could come onsite for an interview. I was also asked to bring my personal laptop (?) for the simulation I was going to undergo during said interview. When I arrived at the office I was given a tour. Some of the things that were highlighted were: beer, where the beer is, when people drink the beer, and how some people even make the beer. The whole place screamed fraternity/sorority. I was then brought offsite for an interview over coffee with two employees. After talking about how everyone at the company enjoys getting wasted together, I was asked a couple of questions about my background and then taken back to the office. I wasn't really included in the conversation between the two employees during the walk back. When I got back, it was time for the simulation. I was brought into a sterile conference room on a different floor and sat there for about 10 minutes waiting for someone to come in. Finally someone arrived with a laptop for me and 2 pieces of paper stapled together with a series of complex questions and instructions. This test was meant to assess my Google Calendar skillls and general research ability. The person giving me this simulation was not only rude, but they sat across from me on their laptop and used Google Calendar (the same Google Calendar account that I was instructed to use) to do their own work. This was incredibly distracting and counterproductive. They also failed to give me the information I would have needed to complete the test efficiently (I was asked to schedule meetings in conference rooms and call rooms and was not told how to differentiate or identify the two in Google Calendar). I felt so frazzled and distracted the whole time, and was not able to complete the simulation in the allotted 30 minutes. The interview wrapped up and I went home. The WORST PART about all of this was the rejection phone call I received the next day. It was the most patronizing and condescending conversation I've ever had. I was pretty much told I failed and "good luck finding a job in THIS job market". Unbelievable. I dodged a bullet on this one, as I recently landed my dream job at an amazing company. This was the worst interview experience I've ever had, and I've had a lot of interviews.
