I’m a currently a Financial Analyst at BU and applied for an Assistant Director of Finance position at another school within BU because I was looking to advance in my career. The recruiter and I spoke about how the new position would require increased responsibility, however the salary was the same as my current position. The BU recruiter asked if I would consider a lateral move in terms of salary. I understand they were looking out for their own interests, but I hope the recruiter understands how damaging it is to encourage a woman to take a promotion without a salary raise. I declined to continue with my application, which the recruiter called “unfortunate.” I hope BU can get to a place where they can match salaries to the market.
