I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Books-A-Million
Interview
I filled out the application online & was called back within a few days. It was for the part time bookseller job. I came in for the interview, spoke with the newly hired manager & it went well. She discussed the position, training, hours & pay.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
It was like any other retail interview but the sales point of the position was heavily discussed. She told me about the membership card & magazine trial sales. they weigh heavy for store percentage & even the employee. She asked many questions about my insurance sales experience & asked me to compare that to how I could use it there. That seems to be the make or break point for who they hire.
The hiring process took longer due to the background check. I was brought back for hiring paper work in a couple days but the background check didn't come back for another 3 weeks. I couldn't work until then.
It was a quick phone call and was very easy, casual conversation. Questions focused on background and interest in working at the store and knowledge of stock management. I also went in person to discuss further.
Know about books. Don't wear jeans. Store has closed so you probably won't get hired here now. Expect to be asked about sales skills and customer service skills and literacy skills.
