      Application

I interviewed at Bonsai Mirai (Warren, OR)

      Interview

The owner contacted me and I drove out to meet them. Four people interviewed me. The interview was actually quite fun and unlike any interview I've ever been a part of. Unfortunately, their behavior after the interview was, quite frankly, very unprofessional and disrespectful. I was told at the end of the interview that I would be updated about "progress" in the following week. That update never came. The owner mentioned he was going to the Redwoods for a week and some change, so I wrote it off to him being a busy small business owner with no reception in the middle of nowhere. He also mentioned at the end of the interview that he would be making a final decision by the end of the second week in February. The second week of February came and went and I still heard nothing. At the beginning of the third week of February, I texted the owner, asking him if he had made a decision and that I hoped he was well. He responded back immediately with the response of "other interviews were not possible due to being in the Redwoods", and that he "would be making a decision by the end of the week", and that I was "still very much in consideration". Very encouraging news! That week came and went, and I received no response. The following week went by, and no response. Over two weeks later, I texted him again, just reminding him that I was still interested and I hoped he was well. To this day two weeks later, I have not received a response. I'm okay with not being offered the position, but no response? Seriously? To ghost someone, then give them hope, then ghost them AGAIN is pretty brutal, and put simply, not cool. To me, and most people in the workforce, this is just a rude dismissal. I've never experienced such a ghosting in my days as a worker, and as someone who has hired people myself in past jobs, I'd be embarrassed for simply brushing off a potential employee who took the time to engage and get to know the company. On top of that, to make a potential employee have to chase you down for a simple answer is just irresponsible and obnoxious. I was going to just swallow this and move on, and I have moved on for the most part, but I'm writing this in the hopes that other people see it, and Bonsai Mirai sees it. If I had a personal message to Mirai it would be this: do not ghost people. It is deeply disrespectful of people's time and efforts. I know Bonsai Mirai is a small company, but that does not excuse you from showing general respect to others. Also, when someone thanks you for your time, respond. I thanked all four of the people who interviewed me, and only two bothered to send a response. Really? For a company that is trying to sell piece of mind and mental happiness to the public, you're doing a pretty horrible job of displaying that idea to potential employees. What kind of community is it when those same community members try to become part of what your vision is, only to watch you ultimately ghost them? You would think mature adults would inherently know these things, but I guess common courtesy is something that needs to be explained to you. We're all busy, I get it. But that's no excuse. Step it up and show some respect next time.
