Interview
1. HR interview, with salary expectations and quick question about SQL
2. Hiring manager interview, with question about past project, and why I want to work at Square.
3. Machine learning interview with data scientist, where I had to fit a quick ML model on my own computer to a dataset, and talk about various metrics related to the model.
4. Data manipulation interview with two data scientists, where I had to process a dataset on my own computer.
5. A/B testing interview with data scientist, where I had to explain my thought process regarding running an A/B test.
6. Business interview with stakeholder, where I had to explain my thought process regarding running a project with a stakeholder.
7. Final hiring manager interview, where the hiring manager asked me how I deal with conflict.
The HR representative and hiring manager had a hostile/aggressive demeanour during the interview, which threw me off.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Block in Dec 2023
Interview
The interview process was pretty good up until the final FOUR HOUR 'on-site' which included technical components and lots of scenario discussion. One interview expected you to write a rhetorical SQL code with a schema outline but no actual IDE to write or execute the SQL.

It was streamlined and clear. Got to onsite. For the technical onsite The interviewers were somewhat unprepared for the cases and the emphasis was on how on the fly you can write code which I think is a very strange criterion for a role that needs time and experimentation ... it was rushed and disorganised. The nontechnical was just based on churn analysis. Based on my feedback I did a great job on the technical part. I was lacking in the other part so shouldn't comment on that.
