      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Block

      Interview

The process was going very well. Started with submitting a video application, then had a hiring manager reach out to me via e-mail. She asked me to come in for a 30 minute in-person interview - the position was in Saint Louis, MO, and I am located in Chicago IL so they were willing to do a Google hangouts interview with me instead of an in person interview - which I was very thankful for. The interview ended up being an hour and a half long and went very well. They then invited me down to Saint Louis for an in person interview - again an hour and a half long. The hiring manager expressed to me that they did not provide hotel cost reimbursement for entry-level positions, which was disappointing but I understood. I drove down for the interview and booked a hotel fairly close to their office. The day of the interview there was some confusion - the hiring manager sent me an automated interview reminder with a different location than what she told me a week prior when setting up the interview. This caused some last minute stress for me, but thankfully she responded to my e-mail about 30 minutes before the interview (She did not supply me with her phone number until after this confusion). Upon arriving I first went to the wrong entrance (I was not told that the only entrance for visitors was on the south side of the building) and the security guard inside was extremely unfriendly and seemed to loath being there. Once inside Square's office the employees were fairly friendly, a little more standoffish than how they came across on Google hangouts, and did not seem as enthusiastic about being there as I thought they would - the interviewers during my Google hangouts interview made it seem like this was a high-energy friendly environment to work in, and I did not get that feeling from the employees I saw. The interview went well again, I met with two different individuals than the ones I talked to over Google hangouts, and answered the questions just like I did in the Google hangouts interview (they were pretty much the exact same questions I was asked before). I met the hiring manager and one other person I talked to during my Google hangouts interview at the end of the process, and she (the hiring manager) seemed just as enthusiastic about me as she did over Google hangouts. I left the interview feeling pretty well, and the hiring manager told me I would be hearing back later that day, or the next day at the latest. I didn't hear back until 6 days later, only to find an automated e-mail from Square stating that I didn't get the job, not even an email from the hiring manager herself. Nothing personal from the hiring manager with specific feedback, not even a thank you for traveling and taking the time and money to come in for an interview. No response from my follow-up e-mail I sent after the interview either. I am very disappointed in this process, especially for getting my hopes up by having me travel to the office at my own expense after two rounds of interviewing. I am disappointed in the confusion about the location before the interview, and lack of compassion and professionalism after the interview. I am also disappointed in the company taking longer than I was told to reach back out to me with a decision, and the hiring manager not even taking a minute to quickly type out an e-mail at least thanking me for taking the time and money to travel hours and pay for a hotel stay for this interview, and informing me herself that I did not get the position. After this treatment I am thankful I didn't get the position - if they treated me this way after the interview, they must not truly care much about their employees either. Continuing my job search, but definitely now much more leery about traveling at my own expense for a job interview.

      Interview

I interviewed for the entry level position. Typical sales interview, met with recruiter and then 3 mangers after that. They asked questions off a list, it didn't feel like a conversation at all. It seemed a little bit unprofessional interviewing.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Block (Toronto, ON) in Dec 2020

      Interview

I applied through the employee referral program. I was first reached out to by Tommy from Square Toronto for the intial screening process. Followed by a one on one interview with the hiring manager. The final step, I had a panel interview with several members of the sales team. This interview process was by far the most unique and comprehensive interview I have been in. Tommy was my recruiter and he was my first point of contact throughout the interview process. He answered my questions in an extremely timely manner and along with Morgan made the interview extremely seamless and stress free. With Covid in mind, the interview felt very personal and genuine even conducted virtually. I cannot imagine how much more effective it would be if I had a chance to interview in person. Overall an excellent and extremely positive experience.

The recruiters did an amazing job of thoroughly explaining the hiring process to the candidate. They are in the candidate's corner the entire time, and really provide a sense of comfort and confidence throughout the entire process.
