      Associate Creative Director Interview

      12 Sept 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Blavity (New York, NY) in Sept 2020

      Interview

This was probably the most unorganized, unrealistic, chaotic interview processes I’ve ever experienced. Initially, I applied for an ACD role listed on the site, which myself and the hiring manager for the role agreed I was well qualified for aside from having graphic design expertise (which, to be clear, is generally NOT an industry requirement or standard for that role). When they decided I wasn’t a fit, they then asked me if I’d leave my well paying, full-time job to come work for them on a contract as a creative strategist. I politely declined and that should have been the end of the interview process, but the hiring manager for the role continued engaging me around a new “full time position” that she didn’t mention or name. After speaking briefly the next day with the CEO, I was told they were ready to make me an offer on said imaginary role, and she asked me to come back to them the next day with potential titles based on the roles and responsibilities we discussed. Roles and responsibilities which equate very visibly to the work done by an Associate Creative Director... When I sent my list of 4 potential titles (2 of which included director level and who of which did not), the hiring manager says I’ve failed some sort of “test” and rescinds the imaginary job offer. I wish I could say I’m surprised but after seeing the Glassdoor reviews I am not shocked in the least at the level of unprofessionalism conducted here. I honestly think this was a huge blessing because I'd much rather work for a company that knows how to properly communicate with their potential candidates.

Thank you for sharing your valuable and candid feedback regarding your recent interviews. We are sorry to hear that you were left disappointed by the trajectory of your candidate experience. The nature of startups, especially as we work to optimize our business in the remote and digital COVID environment, is that of shifting goals and adjusting ideas. Unfortunately, that can sometimes lead to quick pivots, and moments of misalignment. That said, we aim to approach these instances with transparency and active communication, which we missed the mark on this go-around. Feedback such as yours is integral as we move to create a streamlined and enhanced experience for our applicant pool.
