I made the grave error of interviewing for 2 positions with this company. First, a month-long, 5+ interview process that initially moved quickly. Then I was essentially ghosted until I reached out for an update 2 weeks after last contact. I was then told after feeling very confident about the role, people, and opportunity with a lot of 'future talk’, that they decided to go with a re-hire. Which was pretty much an insult. I had drafted and submitted 3 reviews about the interview process to be posted here, but deleted all 3 with karma in mind. One week later I was contacted by the same recruiter for another opportunity. This was for another, similar role supporting a different product in their portfolio. I was assured that this would be a quick process and that everyone liked my previous interviews, etc. I did the 2 quick interviews with the director of the team (whom I had met with in the prior interview process as one of the panel interviews) and the team lead. Both were less than 15 minutes. I was then given a verbal offer with congratulations, start date, etc. At this stage I just needed to wait for approval for a bit higher of a pay rate (a few thousand dollars). I was told that a background check would be processed and that I needed to get my 3 references (2 peer and 1 manager) in. This happened on a Friday. My awesome references jumped right on it and were in by the end of the weekend. I got notice that the background check had completed over the weekend, as well. Then it was silence. Again. I reached out on Thursday and was told by the recruiter that she was going to reach out that afternoon or the next morning. Of course it wasn't that afternoon. The next morning I received an email asking to call when I was available. I had begun a celebratory roadtrip as I was lead to believe that I had the position, so I called when I was able to stop and find a good spot to chat. I brought out my laptop and connected to wifi in case there was paperwork that needed to be completed. Welp.. after giving a verbal offer, running a background check, and asking my references to complete the process on their end, I was told that the company was looking for profitability and that the position was going to Poland. Needless to say, I was incensed. Not only had they strung me along 2 times (my fault.. fool me once), but this time they also took the time of my references. This directly puts me in jeopardy for a future opportunity elsewhere. I only hope that they are still willing to be references again. While I do believe that the people that I interviewed with were genuine, good people.. I don’t believe that this is a good company. It sounds like it once was, but now they can’t come close to living up to their own core values. They don’t respect prospective employees, their time, or even the time of others that make themselves available to support the prospective employee. They really need to take the “trust” out of their name. My advice? Don’t engage with this company unless you absolutely have to for the quick benefits. Even then, keep looking. This company is about the dollar, not the people. And if you currently work there and are reading this.. run away. Far, far away. From my experience, you deserve better than Billtrust.
